AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT OF EKIUGBO GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION, COMR. IBEBE RUFUS AKPOBOME ON THE OCCASION OF EGSOSA MADIEN ANNUAL LEACTURE HELD ON THE 24TH OF NOVEMBER, 2016 AT EKIUGBO GRAMMAR SCHOOL HALL.

Protocols…
It gladdens my heart to be given this great honour and privilege that money cannot buy to address this noble gathering of intellectual personalities.
I wish to specially express my profound gratitude to God Almighty for making this day a reality. I also, wish to greatly appreciate the efforts of my fellow Organizing Committee Members, all members of Ekiugbo Grammar School Old Students Association (both at home and abroad), Principal, Staff and Students of this noble institution of learning and my dynamic Guest Speakers towards the successful planning and organizing of this program.
Some years ago, January 1st 2014 to be precise, some great personalities found it necessary to form an Association for all past students of Ekiugbo Grammar School. The vision of these great men and women for the formation then (which is still applicable today), is to effectively ensure the tremendous growth and develop of Ekiugbo Grammar School and all students that have pass through this school. This vision, which transformed into our motto (Developing the school for greatness) has been the light that has brighten our path in this journey so far.
To many people then, it was a vision that was too big judging from the fact that, many of us spear heading the vision were young people. They believed that we were too young to actualize such vision. But I dare to say today, nobody or association is too young to actualize its vision. All that is needed to actualize any vision is; determination, ideals and support from great personalities like you all seated here and others that could not make it due to one thing or the other. Our gathering here today is a testimony that, this vision can be actualized. And together, we shall actualize it.
This program is aimed primarily at inspiring ourselves and rewarding hard working students. It is also aimed at creating an avenue to interact with one another by bringing forth our challenges and providing solutions to them. We equally aimed at, showcasing the talent of students of this institution. Above all, this association, through this program, aimed at, telling the outside world that we are determined to developing “our” school and we can achieve this through programs like this with your help.
Today, we are gathered here to witness the Median Annual Lecture; a program that we hope to organize every year. This program is a unique and historic one. It is unique because we see it as the beginning of more great things to come. It is historic because it is the first of its kind in the history of this school and association. To us, it is the foundation upon which, many other greater programs will be built upon in the future. It is equally our hope that, future Annual Lectures would be bigger and better. This is the beginning of an Annual program that will have head of states, great academicians and captains of industries, great philanthropist, clergymen and men from all works of lives in attendance in the nearest futures. Rome was not built in one day. We all gathered here today, have started something great; the building of our Rome. This is the beginning of many great things to come from us to this school that has given us education.
Today as we are seated here, we should count ourselves lucky to be part of this historic event. This program has opened a new phase in the history of this school and Association. It is not just a seminar; it is the beginning of the actualization of what we promised the school. It is the commencement of building a better generation of students that will leave here to touch the lives of others. It is the beginning of a positive revolution that would touch and change the way we see and react to things, the way we interact with ourselves and others.
This is a great program to this association. It is to us, what the “I have a dream speech” is to Martin Luther Kings (Jnr.). It is to us, what the “crucifixion of Jesus Christ” is to the Christian Faith. It is to us what the “I am prepared to die speech” of Nelson Mandela is to the People of South Africa. It is equally, to us, what the “America Civil War” is to the Independence of America. These events stated above changed the course and lives of individuals and nations. It is equally our dream that, this program would bring about the much needed positive changes we so much desire in our lives. And we know that, our dreams will come to pass, just the way the dream and vision of Martin Luther Kings  (Jnr) came to pass.
The road towards the organizing of this program has not been smooth. The fact that we are in recession almost affected the success of this program. But I thank God and all those he (God) used to bring about the success of this program. What we see today, is the result of sacrifice and dedication of men and women who believed in this vision. This program is a manifestation of the ideal that we must not wait to become rich before we help others. Hence, I wish to plead with us all to make the best use of it.
Let me conclude by thanking you all once more, for your support and encouragement so far. We look forward to better days ahead.
I wish you all safe and peaceful journey back to your respective home in Jesus Name, Amen.

MADIEN 2016 ADDRESS FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT OF EKIUGBO GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION THIS DAY 5TH JANUARY, 2016.
Fellow EGSOSANS,
WELCOME TO 2016: IT IS TIME FOR EXPANSION!
It gladdens my heart to address you all once more. I always count myself lucky and privileged to address you whenever the need arise not because I am paid to do so but because it gives me the opportunity to speak to persons that have decided to develop themselves and their Alma Matar without been forced or paid to do so.
I wish to specially welcome each and everyone of you to this all important year; a year where we all shall experience total positive transformation in one area or the other of our lives.
I will forever be indebted and grateful to God for seeing us all through 2015 and bringing us safely into yet another year. We must acknowledge the fact that, our survival and achievements today, no matter how great or little they may seem to us was made possible through the Grace of God. Hence, we must as a matter of top prority; always remember to give thanks to God almighty.
As we all know, 2015 is gone and we are now in 2016. I dare to say, 2015 was very challenging to us as a body. More challenging I must say than 2014 when we founded this body. We were faced with lot of challenges ranging from lack of finance to irregular meetings. Equally, last year, we experience low turn out of members during meetings for one reason or the other. It was also the year that, we lost two of our members to death (Miss Charity and Mr. Kininde), may their soul Rest in Peace, Amen.
As challenging as stated above, we can still look back and say with all sense of proud that, the last year was productive and good for this body.
We were able to record a lot of success collectively. I say collectively because all we achieved was made possible because we came together as a group. That is the main reason why I always dedicate every achievement made by this body to members of this group.
Last year, we were able to execute some noble projects. Top on the list was the donation of notebooks to students of our Alma Matar. We attended Social Functions to either celebrate or mourn with our members. We held a get together and General Meetings among other achievements.
Also, I and my executives moved from one location to another to consult groups, personalities or organizations on how to serve you and this body better. We met leaders from various sets, Senior Prefects and people that have finished from “Our Great Alma Matar”. We opened various social media platforms and made publication of newspapers all in the quest of bringing others into this body.
In the course of this consultation, we were made to understand that, the next step for the growth and development of this body is EXPANSION AND CONSOLIDATION ON WHAT WE HAVE ON GROUND.
We discover that, we shall be able to do more projects, attend more social functions in grand style, have better get together, impact more lives, develop ourselves, know one another better and above all, be of more help to our school and ourselves when we expand this year.
When I say expansion of the body, I mean it is time of enlagerment and unlimited increment in every aspect of our operation as a body within or outside Social Medias. It is time for serious business. It is time for all round development of this body and only school we can call our “Alma Matar”. It is time to have over one hundred persons in a single meeting of this body.
I wish to at this point, pause before I continue, to thank all those that contributed in one way or the other to the growth and development of this body last year. While the list is endless, I wish to thank specially my secretary, Mr. Okoye Ofovwo for his steadfastness. I equally say a big thank you to all those that supported this body financially, spiritually, morally and otherwise. You names may not be mentioned today but please be rest assure that you are not forgotten. Your good deeds will always be remembered by us and rewarded by God almighty, in Jesus Name, Amen.
Having appreciated all those who helped us last year, and as a strong believer in the saying, “appreciation is the application for more”, I will Like, Oliver Twist, ask for more from you. I ask for more co-operation, commitment, understanding, ideals, time, and above all, prayers from you as we embark on yet another journey of developing ourselves and the school that made us who we are today.
I am a young man that has been saddled with this great responsibility of organizing and leading great personalities that finished from a school that was founded before I was born. I therefore wish to state, I cannot do it all alone. It is a big burden that we can only bear together. The development of this body is a task that can only be done when we join hands together.
I wish to before I end, tender an unreserved apology to anybody that I may have offended in one way or the other in the course of carrying out my duties last year. Please find a place in your heart to forgive me and join hands with me in taking this body forward.
There is hope ahead. A lot of people are signifying interest to work with us in other to develop this body. It will only be fair you join hands with us and I promise you that your name will be written boldly in gold when the time come to write the history of those that built this body.
Finally, Nelson Mandela dreamt of an Apartheid Free South Africa. Martin Luther Kings Dreamt of a United Black and White Americans. Bola Tinibu believed that an opposition Party can rule Nigeria. Today, all the dreams mentioned above have come to pass. Today, I dream of an EGSOSA that will experience an expansion beginning from this year that in the nearest future will become one of the greatest body to have been founded in the history of the world. I believe in this dream and shall work to achieve it. I urge you to do the same and I promise you, once more that your name will always be written in gold when the time to remember the builders of this body comes.
We have what it takes to expand and make it big and with your help, we shall expand and make it.
Thank You!

A KEYNOTE ADDRESS PRESIDENTED BY MR. ARIKO NAVWOJAH ON THE TOPIC: OLD STUDENT ASSIOCIACIATION (OSA): THE RATIONALE FOR ITS EXISTENCE - YESTERDAY AND TODAY ON THE OCASSION OF EGSOSA EASTER MEETING.
20th April, 2014.

Introduction
We are gathered here today to midwife the birth of an old student association for our Alma matar. What we do not know for sure is how many such attempts at bringing this association into existence got aborted in their infancy. For a school that was founded over three decades ago, this is not unlikely. It is in the light of this that we need to answer a basic question from the onset of this journey to ensure that we do not go the way of others who tried before us.
WHY DO WE NEED AN OLD STUDENT ASSIOCIACIATION?
From this key question, several related questions arise:
a. Given that I have completed my studies here and obtained my certificate, why do I need to burden myself with such an association?
b. What do I stand to gain from belonging?
c. What can I offer as a member?
Let us attempt some answers to question a-c above.
The Latin phrase “alma matar” (our mother) very aptly describes our relationship with our old school. Just like your mother, your old school for five or six years (as the case maybe) grew and nurtured you through a complex network of teachers, fellow students, curriculum, extra-curricular activities, infrastructures/facilities and various learning situations/experiences, it molded and formed you. Whatever was added by your higher institution is only icing on the cake. The real foundation of the person who you are today was laid by your secondary school. So the question again- do you think you should give back to this institution that gave you so much?
How if your answer to this question is YES, then you have something to offer to your old school to make it a better place for future generations. Have you consider working with other old students association, government, parent-teachers-association, non governmental organisations, companies in the neighbourhoods, banks, international organisations, community and other critical stakeholders in the education sector in providing the following for the growth and development of the school?
a. Buildings, laboratories, library, science/technology materials, state of the art computers, etc.
b. Provision of manpower (teaching/non-teaching)/ capacity building.
c. Provision of sports equipment and sponsoring of sports fiestas.
d. Organization of quiz, debates, competitions, shows etc. for the intellectual development of the students.
The list is endless
The last question that we need to answer now and which I believe is of paramount importance for some of us here is, in all these, what do I stand to gain? Before getting down to the nitty-gritty, let me very quickly remind us that gains comes in two forms, intrinsic and extrinsic; and both of them are possible and attainable if you devote your time as an old student to working for the association. Trust me; I have put in 27 years in the service of my old student association.
Let’s quickly itemize some of the benefits:
I. Creates room for formation of life-long beneficial relationships
II. Offers opportunities for assistance in times of difficulty.
III. Provides business/employment opportunity.
IV. Opens a network of important connections in various spheres of life.
V. Gives you a voice in the affairs of your old school.
Again the list is endless.
Let me conclude this talk by telling you something that I have repeatedly told my fellow SACOSANS (SACOSA – St Ambrose’s College Usiefrun Old students Association): “to move our old school to a greater height is a task that must be done”. Today you are starting out on a journey, so I say to you safe journey and God’s guidance EGSOSA (Ekiugbo grammar school old students association)

I wish all of you safe journey to your various destinations in Jesus name. (Amen)

EGSOSA Old Boys Donate notebook to Ekiugbo Grammar School Students

There was joy in the faces of the Principal, Staff and Students of Ekiugbo Grammar School recently when Old Students Association (EGSOSA) led by its Acting President Comrade Ibebe Rufus Akpobome went to the school to donate over four hundred customized notebooks to students that excelled academically in the last examination (first term).
The donation of the notebooks which was in line with the Association’s vision of developing Ekiugbo Grammar School took place during the morning devotion of the school. The notebooks were shared to the Senior Prefect, Head girl and ninety (90) other students that excelled academically in the thirty (30) classes that made up the school that was founded in 1980.
In his address, Comrade Akpobome stated that, they (Ekiugbo Grammar School Old Students Association) are donating the notebooks to students that excelled in the just concluded examination in fulfillment of the promise they made on the 12th of December, 2014 (while presenting a bell to the school).
His words, “we are here to fulfill the promise that we made to you before your last examination. We said then that “we are going to present notebooks to students that excel in the forth coming examination”.
We are here today to fulfill that promise because we are noble personalities that have been trained by this great school to always keep our promise”.
The Principal of the school Mr. Mtthew Iriemete thanked the Association for the kind gesture. He described the project as a laudable project that has touched the lives of the students. He tasked the body to remain united in other to be able to do more projects for the school.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Senior Prefect of the school, Master Obakpororo Morrison thanked the body for the donation of the notebooks to him and other students. He said that the notebooks would no doubt go along way in helping them to do well academically. He added that, they are encouraged to do more because they are now aware that there is an Old Student Association in the School that is working to ensure that they are adequately rewarded for their hard work.
